Millwall boss Jackett reveals Liam Trotters influence in Ipswich win

Liam Trotter told the Lions manager that he played on the left while at the Tractor Boys

Monday 23rd April

Millwall manager Kenny Jackett admitted that he felt that his side had surprised Ipswich by using former Tractor Boy Liam Trotter on the left wing.

The Lions triumphed 3-0 with the midfielder scoring the second goal and it was revealed that he played a part in his side’s setup at Portman Road.

“Trotter told me that he’d played wide left in his early days at Ipswich,” Jackett said. “We felt it would surprise Ipswich if we used Trotter on the left, and then we adjusted the tactics in the second half and got him to tuck in as the third midfield player and used Kane on the left.”

The Millwall boss was unsurprisingly delighted by the win and hopes to finish the season with six wins on the bounce.

“It’s a super win,” he revealed. “I didn’t think the Ipswich penalty was a penalty – it was a harsh decision.

“But it was great save by the goalkeeper [Maik Taylor].

“Long may our rich vein of form continue.

“It’s the highest we’ve been for a number of months.

“The gap between us and the bottom three is a good one and, as a manager, I want us to continue to finish the season strongly.”
